Nimbus 2000 Chewing His Bone

Nimbus 2000, our Iggy, loves his rawhide bone. Unfortunately, we had to take it away from him because we saw some blood on the bone. Also, people have told us rawhide is bad for the dog since the material cannot be digested properly if swallowed.

Why Does My Stomach Hurt? The Top 3 Reasons Why Your Stomach Always Hurts

!±8± Why Does My Stomach Hurt? The Top 3 Reasons Why Your Stomach Always Hurts

Do you frequently wonder "why does my stomach hurt"? If so then today I'll provide the top 3 reasons for why your stomach always hurts or why you experience chronic stomach pain and what you can start doing today to begin correcting this condition that requires serious attention.

3 Reasons for Chronic Pain

#1 - Lack of Stomach Acid: That's right a lack of stomach acid is always the problem, rarely do people produce too much and have problems as a result. With a lack of this acid, stomach ulcers are more frequent, bacteria that would otherwise be destroyed on consumed food is allowed to pass through and infect the body such as H.Pylori. As well a lack of acid frequently leads to a condition known as candida overgrowth which I'll discuss in a second.

#2 - Improper Chewing/Too much liquid: When you eat too quickly and fail to chew your food well enough you place extra stress on your stomach to do all the added work. It's even worse if you don't chew your food (ideally until paste like consistency), you suffer from low stomach acid & you drink liquids with your meals which will only dilute your stomach acid further. The solution to which is to stop doing all of these things. Chew your food to a paste, don't drink any more than 1 glass of water over the course of 30 min before a meal and 2 hours afterwards.

#3 - Chronic Candida: This is a yeast that thrives inside anyone with low stomach acid, ironically it can cause a great deal of digestive pain which most people mistake for stomach pain. You see your stomach is actually much higher in your chest, odds are you're feeling pain a little lower in your intestines, this is exactly where candida does all its damage. The list of symptoms it causes is endless, however the most common associated symptom is digestive pain which is caused by the fermentation and growth of the yeast inside your body. If you also experience gas &/or bloating as well then the odds are great that it's candida causing your problems.

The first step is to learn about candida, fill out a quick questionnaire to see if it's the cause of your problems and learn the first thing you need to do in order to eliminate it for good!

Stop Your Dog Chewing - The Easy Way

!±8± Stop Your Dog Chewing - The Easy Way

A dog can have very powerful jaw muscles, normally intended for chewing through bones. Wouldn't it be nice if that's all your dog did chew?

One of the most common types of bad behavior from dogs is when they chew on something that they shouldn't.

The tendency to chew will vary form dog to dog and breed to breed. The need to chew things usually starts of when the dog is a puppy. Most dogs grow out of this but some take the chewing habit into adulthood.

The first thing to remember when trying to stop your dog from chewing is that prevention is much better than cure. Try to keep children's toys separate from the dogs. Also keep shoes and socks etc. away from where the dog can reach them.

Whether indoors or outdoors, keep plenty of attractive toys available for your dog. Rawhide bones are quite attractive to dogs although some dogs will prefer rubber or plastic toys. Find out what your dog prefers. Real bones should be avoided apart from maybe larger beef bones. Pork and chicken bones can easily choke a dog or lodge in its throat.

A great way to keep your dog occupied and distracted from chewing your things is to get them a toy with a hollow center. You can put a treat in the centre of the toy. That way your dog will have to work at getting to the treat. This will keep them occupied AND distracted. Exactly what you need when you dog is thinking about what to chew next.

Additionally, you can take some pro-active actions and train your dog how not to chew your things. Once a day, take an item that you do not want the dog to chew. Let's say a shoe of yours. Present the item to your dog. If your dog moves towards the item or attempts to bite it give a loud and firm 'NO'. You may want to lightly tap your dog on the snout to reinforce the action. Nothing too physical or aggressive, just enough to get the point across.

If your dog tends to chew things in the garden such as your plants or fences etc, there are some good commercial preparations designed to keep your dog from chewing. Smearing these over items the dog likes chewing should discourage the action almost immediately.

Unfortunately, you will never completely remove the desire to chew things from your dog. Redirecting that desire is the best option and teaching your dog what is acceptable and what isn't. This process may take a while but never looses patience and never assume your dog knows best. You will need to train him.

Caring for Your Dog's Teeth

!±8± Caring for Your Dog's Teeth

A dog, like a human baby, experiences the world through his mouth, by tasting and chewing on things. But, he also uses his mouth is as his hands. He carries and pulls with it as well as defends himself. Therefore healthy teeth and gums are very important.

A dog's teeth need the same care as a human's. Therefore, it's important that you take care of his teeth as you would your own. The best way to do this, of course, is to brush them, which should be done at least twice a week. There are special tooth brushes designed to fit in a dog's mouth as well as special chicken flavored tooth paste to make the task easier. But sometimes, brushing your dog's teeth can be a real hassle. For instance, there are some dogs that will flee at the sight of a toothbrush and it is very had to coax a seventy pound Rottweiler from under the bed.

So, how can you get Bruno the Rottweiler to care for his teeth? Here are several alternatives to toothbrushing.

Dog Food

Dog food is a major cause of tooth decay. Believe it or not, canned dog food, though it tastes real good, is not good for Bruno's teeth. Therefore, you should not feed it to him all the time; once in awhile, as a treat, or on a special occasion is fine. Instead, Bruno should eat a good quality hard dry dog food. This will keep his teeth and gums exercised, as well as cleaned.

Bones

Of course, Bruno needs more than just dry dog food to keep his teeth white and his gums healthy. Chewing on things, such as sticks, the furniture and golf balls, though it is good exercise for his gums, is not very healthy, especially if he were to swallow the wrong thing. Or, in the case of the furniture, just chewing on it is not a good idea on his part. So, you can provide him with a bone, either rawhide or real, as a diversion. These come in various sizes to fit your dog. Bruno will want a larger one, while a smaller dog would necessarily need a smaller bone. Either way, he can exercise and clean his teeth without fear of choking.

Enzymatic Rawhide Chips

You can try some of the rawhide chips that are infused with enzymes designed to kill your dog's bad breath as well as remove tartar and plaque. However, the taste leaves something to be desired and Bruno may not like them, thus leaving them untouched. If he does not use them, they won't work.

Regular Visits to the Veterinarian

Of course, the veterinarian is the best person to keep Bruno's teeth in perfect health. As much as he will protest, regular visits insure good oral and physical health. Your dog's veterinarian will provide him the proper care that will keep him healthy and happy for years to come.

Importance of Rawhide For Dogs

!±8± Importance of Rawhide For Dogs

The most welcome treat for any dog is rawhide. It has been acclaimed as the number one choice for varied reasons. No one can deny the importance of rawhide for dogs

Introduced in the 50's, rawhide were immediately acknowledged as a natural chew treat for your beloved canines. It has been proven to benefit both their dental health and satisfy their need to chew.

Rawhide is taken from the inner hide layer of large cleft-hoofed bovine livestock. Its quality depends upon the animal source and the country of origin. Animal hides are made up of two layers; the outer layer is tough which are manufactured into leather shoes, garments and upholstery and the inner layer is soft which are cut into different shapes and sizes for dog chews.

Animal hides become flexible because of collagen which is the protein contained in the cartilage, bones and teeth. When the collagen in animal hide is dried, it becomes stiff. American rawhide is oven-dried to a consistency that softens when chewed.

Rawhide is not food for it contains very low fat and few calories and it is not intended to replace the dog's daily intake. Let your dog chew the rawhide bone for as long as it is hard enough but when it becomes soft, take it away and return to your dog when it hardens again. When the bone is chewed into small pieces, throw it away; dogs might choke on the small parts or endanger their digestive tract.

Benefits of rawhide for dogs:

1. Rawhide improves dental health by helping scrape away plaque, controlling tartar build up and maintaining healthy gums. It controls bad breathe, keeps teeth white and reduces the risk of potential gum problems.

2. Dog chew provides stimulating activities by entertaining your dog for hours and keeping its mind stimulated; especially helpful for old inactive dogs.

3. Rawhide bones satisfies dog's inborn desire to chew, helping you overcome destructive chewing behavior of both puppies and adult dogs.

4. Rawhide bone minimizes your puppies teething pain and stimulates growth of adult teeth.

You should know how to choose the proper kind of rawhide bones. It is safest to buy one made in the Unites States or overseas which is in accordance with the highest USDA specification. Select one that matches your dog's chewing rate and habit. Take into consideration, its size, shape, hardness and flavor. Some dogs prefer small bones and others like big ones. Aggressive dogs choose pressed rawhide bones which are compressed, harder and last longer. Try various flavors and give your dog the flavor of its choice.

Remember that almost all dog chews are enjoyed by our furry friends. Find the best type of rawhide bones that they prefer. You just keep your dog chewing which is great for removing plaque and relieving boredom. These are the reasons for the importance of rawhide bones for dogs.
